here's some data i found:
If you put your fingers on the cd's front side will it be ruined? - Yahoo! Answers
Scratch resistance on the label side of CD-R's - Club CDFreaks - Knowledge is Power

it was my opinion, that if you scratch it good enough, the reflective surface on the back of the "Label" would also come off (i think this is true, becuase if you scratch the "label" you can see straight through the CD) then, i think the laser doesn't reflect back with the data/music, and your cd is ruined

does anyone have an idea on how to protect CD's while traveling? cause im going away for a while and wanted to bring some with me
what i do is just make an envelope out of paper by folding it in half than stapling the left and right sides. it works, and nothing happens to the cd.
