Default finding a computers "name"

so in school i can run cmd through batch files and editing them in notepad

and i want to shut down other computers on the network.. with the
"shutdown -m \\computername" but i dont no how to figure out the computer names. on the network!

1. does anyone know how to find out the names?
2. can you shutdown all of then at once?
3. if i do that. can they trace it?.. or should i do it from a different log on =]
